The Canaries are arguably the most popular winter destinations from the UK. With a short 4-hour flight duration it's not difficult to understand why the Canaries are repeat favourites year after year. Grand Canaria and Tenerife are great options for that guaranteed sunshine through the miserable grey British winter.
Couples can take advantage of the peaceful, quiet periods out of the school holidays while families can grab a week of sunshine during the October half term, over Christmas or even during the February half term, when there are very limited options for short haul destinations with sun.
Morocco or Egypt can be a good bet during the milder winter months, it can get cold during December and January evening, but the other winter months are perfect for some well-deserved warmth and sun.
A little further afield, but without flying long haul, Cape Verde and Gambia are both fantastic winter sun options:
Cape Verde, a relatively new holiday destination, is growing increasingly popular as a winter sun option. With beautiful beaches, great food, peaceful and tranquil atmosphere, it's a perfect quiet getaway for those looking to just unwind and relax. Adult-only options and family-friendly options are available. The island of Sal is most popular for families and couples looking for a little life and vibe, while Boa Vista is the quieter, unspoilt island, offering a tranquil atmosphere and outstanding beaches. Cape Verde is home to some excellent 5-star hotels.
Gambia, this destination really deserves a write-up of its own. A fascinating area of the world, Africa's smallest country. AKA The smiling Coast of Africa, and it truly is. Its beautiful hot weather in the winter has helped this country become a popular tourist trap. From October to March the weather is perfect. It's a bird spotters paradise, some of the world's best bird spotting can be found here with a huge variety of species, some specific to Gambia. Gambia isn't for everyone and before considering it, you should speak to an expert. I will provide you with honest and realistic advice and help you decide if it would be right for you. It's an interesting and cultural country, with beautiful beaches, and fantastic wildlife opportunities, providing a great insight into West African culture. We would recommend a good, reputable 4/5 star hotel on bed and breakfast. Food, drink and everything else is very cheap in Gambia so an all-inclusive option is poor value. Gambia is a wonderful experience that will open your eyes and probably your heart, forever. We supply intense advice and guidance to all first-time travellers to the Gambia, it is a wonderful experience if booked correctly, but it is vital to book Gambia through an agent who has been and who can give you the facts. I am lucky enough to have knowledge and great suppliers who can provide you with advice on Gambia and help you decide whether it would be a good holiday choice for you.
If you're thinking of flying long haul, the options are plentiful. The Caribbean is fantastic for winter, most of Asia, the Far East, the Indian Ocean and South America. Get in touch for honest advice and destination information.
